Papaline of Avignon – Per unit
A bite of Provence, a sweet legend: the Papaline d'Avignon, this small chocolate "thistle" with a heart of Comtat Origan liqueur, is the gourmet soul of Vaucluse — a refined sweet to savor or to offer.
🍫 Origin & know-how
-
Created in 1960 by the Vaucluse Master Pastry Chefs' Union, the Papaline pays homage to the former popes of Avignon.
-
Each papaline weighs approximately 8-9 g , handcrafted in the commune of Morières-lès-Avignon.
-
Its shell is composed of two layers of chocolate: an inner coating of dark chocolate, an outer white-pink shell (tinted, reminiscent of the robes of cardinals) which gives it its characteristic tangy appearance.
-
Inside: a heart of Comtat Origan liqueur , obtained from more than 60 plants picked around Mont Ventoux — a traditional liqueur from Vaucluse — sweetened with Provençal honey.
🍷 Tasting & the perfect moment
-
Enjoy it on its own , as a refined treat, or with a coffee or digestif to enhance the liqueur.
-
The contrast between the chocolate and the liqueur brings a unique balance: sweetness, warmth, sugariness and Provençal character .
-
Lightweight — perfect for a moment of pleasure or a small local touch in a gift basket.
🎁 Who should you include it in your shop, and why?
-
For lovers of regional specialties , artisanal delicacies, and the terroir of Vaucluse.
-
As a small gift / surprise — to give alone or in a gourmet gift box with wines, jams, soaps etc.
-
To enrich the product range, show authenticity and tradition — a product that is “a favorite / local / historical”.
