Comtat Origan Liqueur – 50 cl – 38% Vol
-
Origan du Comtat is a liqueur born in the Comtat Venaissin (Vaucluse / Provence).
-
Its name evokes the Provençal tradition: originally, the liqueur combined oregano (or marjoram) with a blend of Mediterranean plants to produce an aromatic drink, heir to the elixirs and plant waters of the region.
🌿 Composition & manufacturing
-
Comtat oregano is made by macerating, infusing and distilling a mixture of about fifty (or even more than 60) plants, flowers and spices: oregano, hyssop, rosemary, marjoram, sage, lemon balm, fir buds, etc.
-
The mixture is traditionally sweetened with honey from Provence (or a “honey/syrup” sweetener, depending on the batch) to bring roundness and sweetness to the liqueur.
-
In some versions, the liqueur is aged in oak barrels , which gives it additional aromatic complexity and stability in the bottle.
👃👅 Sensory Profile & Character
-
Nose & aromas : rich herbaceous and aromatic bouquet — oregano, garrigue plants, resinous or woody notes, wild herbs, sometimes balsamic or slightly sweet touches due to honey.
-
Palate : balanced, round and generous liqueur — soft attack, then vegetal and slightly spicy aromatic development, with a finish of honey and a long, persistent herbaceous note.
-
Colour & appearance : amber or yellowish robe — typical of herbal liqueurs — clear, which can visually match the idea of a “Provençal nectar”.
